Accessibility Pays — Inclusion Creates Business Value

Every inaccessible experience carries a cost: a lost customer, an abandoned journey, a repeated request for assistance, or a brand that failed to include part of its market.

The Global Business Case

Accessibility is often presented as a social or regulatory obligation. However, international research increasingly positions disability inclusion as a contributor to financial performance, innovation, productivity, customer loyalty, and long-term business resilience.

Accenture, Disability:IN, and the American Association of People with Disabilities analyzed data from 346 companies participating in the Disability Equality Index between 2015 and 2022. Companies identified as disability-inclusion leaders achieved:

  • 1.6 times more revenue.
  • 2.6 times more net income.
  • Twice the economic profit.
  • A 25% greater likelihood of outperforming industry peers in productivity.

The business value can emerge through several channels:

These figures should be presented responsibly. The research was primarily focused on large US companies and measured broad organizational disability inclusion—including employment, culture, accessibility, procurement, and community engagement. It does not prove that installing one accessibility solution will automatically produce the same financial results.

What it does demonstrate is that organizations treating disability inclusion as a strategic business capability tend to perform more strongly than those treating it as a limited compliance exercise.

Market Reach

Accessible services allow more customers and their families to participate independently.

Customer Loyalty

A reliable, dignified experience can encourage users to return to environments where they know their needs have been considered.

Operational Efficiency

Accessible information can reduce repeated requests for basic directions, product details, or assistance.

Brand Trust

Practical accessibility demonstrates a stronger commitment than awareness campaigns alone.

Innovation

Designing around users with different needs often creates simpler and more intuitive experiences for everyone.

The Saudi Business Case

Saudi Arabia is undergoing simultaneous growth in digital services, tourism, healthcare, retail, events, transport, and real-estate development. This transformation creates a valuable opportunity to include accessibility during the design and modernization of customer journeys rather than adding it later.

The Saudi Law of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities establishes rights, services, institutional responsibilities, and protections relating to people with disabilities. This moves accessibility beyond optional goodwill and places it within a developing national rights framework.

The Saudi Exchange ESG Disclosure Guidelines were created to support sustainable and inclusive growth in the Saudi capital market. Disability access belongs principally within the Social component of ESG because it relates to inclusion, community impact, customer access, and equality of opportunity.

Digital accessibility is also becoming more visible institutionally. The Digital Government Authority’s accessibility policy recognizes the importance of enabling users with disabilities to access digital services, while the Authority for the Care of People with Disabilities has launched programs intended to help people with disabilities use government services independently.

At the same time, Saudi Arabia recorded approximately 123 million domestic and international visits in 2025, including around 29.3 million inbound visitors. As the Kingdom expands tourism, events, sports, hospitality, and public destinations, accessible visitor journeys will increasingly affect service quality and international competitiveness.
