Niyyah (Intention)

Niyyah (Intention)

Actions Deeds, are based on Intentions

Narrated by Abu Huraira, The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

Truly, Allah does not look at your outward forms and wealth, but rather at your hearts and your deeds (Sahih Muslim)

Verily, all actions are but driven by intention and for everyone is what he intented

(Al Bukhari and Muslim)

What are our true intentions behind our deeds? what we do , our actions are they just to show off to people. Many people will pray,  give charity,  give to others without any pure or good intentions behind it.

He knoweth all that is in the heavens and the earth, and He knoweth what ye conceal and what ye publish. And Allah is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men). (Quran 64:4)

Sincere and pure intentions, will be rewarded and evil intentions will bear it’s burden.

He who seriously considered doing a good deed but did not do it, will have one good deed recorded for him (Muslim)

There are four types of people: one is a man whom Allah has given knowledge and wealth. He acts with respect to his wealth based on his knowledge. Another person says that if Allah had given him similar to what He gave the first man, He would have acted in the same fashion. The reward for both of them will be the same. A third person is one, whom Allah gives wealth but He does nor give knowledge. Therefore, He spends money according to his desire. Another man says if Allah had given him, what He had given that person, He would have acted in the same manner. These two will have the same burden upon them.”

(Ibn Majah with a good chain)

Purity and Intention of the Heart

Pure intention is based on how pure and clean your heart is. All your deeds come from intention,  and all intention originate from the heart. Therefor if your heart is good, clean and pure so will your intention and actions.

The Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said:

“Indeed, there is a piece of flesh in the body; if it is sound, then all the body is sound. However, if it is diseased, then all the body is diseased. Truly that is the heart.” [Al-Bukhaaree 1/126, Muslim 1599 from Nu`maan ibn Basheer radhiallahu `anhumaa]

You should do everything, talk, think, like, love, pray, all your actions for the sake of Allah(swt) alone, otherwise if you don’t do it for Allah’s sake you will be doing it for yourself your own ego. Before you pray make your intention pure for Allah(swt) alone, and your heart, so your deeds can reflect the goodness and purity of your heart, so  your prayers as well can be pure infront of your lord.
